Revisions

I enjoy classes that are challenging. I feel the majority of the art classes I have enrolled in here, have posed little to no challenge. The content leaves more to be desired...However, I have had a hard time with this course, fortunately. I can honestly say I am actually learning these programs and feel it will benefit me in the future.

PhotoSHOP

this most recent assignment is to design a book cover. we, as students have the liberty to choose the book and then reflect the cover layout according to the content therein. the old proverb (if you will) that comes to mind is "never judge a book by its cover." suspending judgment is occasionally difficult...i chose to design a cover for THE MASTER AND MARGARITA... here are some of the photos for the fun:

–noun
1.
a technique of composing a work of art by pasting on a single surface various materials not normally associated with one another, as newspaper clippings, parts of photographs, theater tickets, and fragments of an envelope.
2.
a work of art produced by this technique. Compare assemblage ( def. 3 ) .
3.
an assemblage or occurrence of diverse elements or fragments in unlikely or unexpected juxtaposition: The experimental play is a collage of sudden scene shifts, long monologues, musical interludes, and slapstick.
4.
a film that presents a series of seemingly unrelated scenes or images or shifts from one scene or image to another suddenly and without transition.

Collage is a French word…it is also my most favorable kind of art. Such admiration for this form of art is derived from the original masters, of whom include:

Max Ernst (google “A Week of Kindness”)

ThumbNAILS

This morning we convened around a round table...something like a meeting of the minds...to discuss one another’s thumbnails. I am not referring to the ones on your physical thumbs...For those of you who are not versed in the art education system students are assigned to create a series of drafts prior to composing their final piece. During this compositional process students will have a peer powwow or a critique to share ideas and give feedback.

The most interesting piece of feedback was provided by the instructor. He encouraged us to “…fail…fail hard.” I think this is advice is absolutely above adequate. Why you ask? Because we are all students in unfamiliar territory in a basic Computers and Art class, so we are sitting in a sort of ignorance and the only way for us to make progress is by learning by our mistakes.

Here are three rough renderings that were selected by Prof. Smellie.

Computers and Art

Today is the second day of the semester and the first day of my computers and art class...I am looking forward to this courses content with the same affinity I would for my morning coffee. A kind of stimulation or an acceleration of what I already know concerning computers and art…like computer caffeine
